The normal open test and tune prior to the Nitro Thunder event was a private track hire affair this year with limited numbers, but packed in plenty of action.
Highlights included Geoff Blake’s PB 5.96 in his pristine Pro Alcohol FED. Blake is not here to rotate the earth in the alky ranks, rather setting his own personal goals. The dragster is still running a rootes blower set up and should have plenty left in it.
In Pro Slammer, Paul Mouhayet, John Zappia, Sam Fenech, Emilio Spinozzi and Michelle Davies were on track. A 5.69 from Mouhayet was the only serious number, but judging from the wheels up photos, the teams are throwing everything at it.
Wayne Daley shook down his repaired Dodge Avenger following his scrape with the wall at Adelaide, and Jodi Racco was also out and looked strong.
Brad Lemberg punched out a 7.13 Pro Stock Motorcycle pass, Glenn Wooster also made a few test hits.
That was all from the Nitro Thunder testing for the pro guys. Rob Dekert and Adrian Vella in the ex-Lee Bektash Avenger made some Super Stock runs ahead of the weekend to dial their cars in.
In other news from the day, Robert Marjan reclaimed the world record for a full Street Nissan GTR on radials with an astonishing 7.28. The car also now the world’s quickest RB powered Skyline outright.
For the Holden six fans, Charlie Muscat’s crazy little naturally aspirated Duggan-head Holden 202ci powered Torana broke into the 9.8 second zone – offtap and on its own level in performance.
Finally is was amazing and emotional to see Zara Board and the Board family return to the track, with Zara making a few laps in her Junior Dragster.
