The infamous Lights Out Grudge Racing deal was back at Sydney Dragway on Saturday, February 24.
Powercruise supremo and out of the box thinker Michael “Gup” Gilbert treated racers and fans to a “cheap-as” night of racing for a mere $10 in a hope to attract the masses to a spectacular night of racing. Unfortunately it is fair to say the numbers were down on what we would have expected. You would think at $10 they should have been lined up to Penrith – but anyway those who did show up experienced some tough heads up racing.
As with the Lights Out concept, the crowd was allowed down to the start line in a well controlled fashion to experience racing close up, with plenty of wagering going on the side for various match ups.
An unfortunate oil down from the PAC Performance Mazda6 affected the program and we haven’t received official word if there were any winners declared. Craig Hewitt, now on radials with his blown Monaro, was impressive with wins in all three of his races, including a cracker against icon Mark Hayes in the final run of the night.
