It was a double act at Willowbank Raceway last weekend, when the venue played host to round five of the Queensland Drag Racing Championships and a day just for the kids with the Junior Dragster Blast.

It is getting down to the business end of the 2022 QDRC year as series moves into the backend of the season. In contrast the Junior Dragster Blast was a fun day out that saw racing mixed up from heads up pro tree starts to boy versus girl brackets.

Getting to the QDRC results, and some wet stuff along with tricky track conditions threw some challenges the racers way. In QDRC Outlaws Josh Fletcher took the win with a 7.22 on a 7.13 dial against the injected nitro digger of Steven Sugano. We can not go without mentioning Cheyne Phillips running a 5.50 on a 5.60 in round two, is there a quicker bracket racer anywhere in the world?

Paul Doeblien did his championship chances no harm in with now back to back QDRC round wins, when he defeated Noel Green in the Top Sportsman final. A red light from Rodney McAuley ended his Modified final at the tree, handing a win to Andrew Pinkstone.

Super Sedan championship contenders Mitchell Bauer and Tim Barron duked it out in the round five final, with Barron taking advantage of a big holeshot to force a break out from Bauer. Tammy Goldthorpe added to her Modified Bike QDRC win collection in a tight final against Johnny Lewis, and will have a strong lead in the championship.

It was breakouts all round in the Super Street final, Tonacia Marshall going under her dial in by the least to collect the win over Troy Hutton. And in Junior Dragster Caleb Seng knocked off championship leader Emma Wagensveld in the final to take home the trophy.

The next round of the QDRC is on Sep 3.
