Showers couldn’t dampened the enthusiasm or show the for this year’s Atlantic Oil Supercharged Shootout at Mildura’s Sunset Strip.

The premier event on the Sunset Strip drag racing calendar, the Atlantic Oils Easter Supercharged Shootout was again a huge success. As part of the regions Easter Powersports spectacular, where a number of motorsports are showcased across the Easter weekend in Mildura, following a huge motorsport display in the centre of town, the Supercharged Shootout rocks Saturday’s festivities.

With a another big crowd in the house, around 130 entries populated the pits with 18 Supercharged Outlaws lined up chase the prestigious win. The Supercharge Shootout portion of the event was run over three Chicago Shootout rounds then a final. Dale Tucker with his HQ GTS Monaro and Doina Day have her dragster both picked up three round win to race each other for the event win. A killer .026 reaction from Tucker set up the win over the 1/8th mile distance, at the stripe Tucker crossed for a 5.025 on a 4.98 dial to take the Atlantic Oils prize money to Day’s 4.525 on a 4.35.

Bob Sherry’s little high stepping Chevy Monza took out the B Final with a 5.264 on 5.15 against the hard charging Top Alcohol Funny Car’s 4.232 on a 3.95 of Wayne Talbot.

In other results, Dave Foster’s big cube ’57 Chev defeated Alex Johnston’s Mustang. In a very tight race, CJ Davies was right on his 5.32 dial in with a 5.330 to take the win in his FED over Matt Ponton’s altered. Robert Kardum’s XE Falcon was the victor in Super Sedan, defeating Colin Griffin in his veteran Celica.

Ash Hayley with big burnouts and all took home the win in Nostalgia with the ‘Haywire’ 55 Chev against Kieley O’Connell’s HB Torana. In a big Super Street field, John Kalantzis came out on top in his HK Monaro, taking out Brock Langley in the final round. Greg Oberti’s Suzuki held off Derryn McGregor’s Honda at the line for the win in Modified Bike. Finally in Junior Dragster, Cooper Plummer out drove Mason Kuchel in the final to add the Atlantic Easter Supercharged Shootout winner’s trophy into his collection.

“It certainly tested us, and the weather threw what it could at us but we persevered and got the job done. Considering the conditions we faced, the track held up, and was awesome in which we saw more than a few PBs ran between Friday and Saturday,” said SDRA President Kingsley Kuchel.

These events take a massive amount of time to put together and it doesn’t just happen the day before and the day after.
