Some precipitation delayed the start for round two of the Speed Adict Clothing NSW Championship at Sydney Dragway, but once the wet stuff was dried up, the even was race to completion.
The battle for early season points was intense, in Top Sportsman, Joe Gattellari jumped up the points ladder with a final round win in his VL Commodore over Stephen Willies’ big Torino. Reaction times proved the difference in Modified final between the two championship leaders Leigh Hartill-Law and Allison Stewart. Both racers were within a few thousandths of their respective dial ins – 8.057 (8.05) for Hartill-Law, 8.144 (8.14) for Stewart – with Hartill-Law sneaking to the the stripe first on a holeshot.
A cracking .003 reaction from Brant Gilliver in the Extreme Bike final helped snatch the win at the stripe over moonlighting doorslammer racer Geoff Gradden 8.89 to 8.91. The familiar sight of Jim Denaro and Sean Maher racing off for the win in Super Sedan, saw Denaro cut a .001 from the Cortina and drive for the event win.
Bobbie Jo Simmonds has been banking on consistency in Modified Bike, her second runner-up result now has her leading the points. Lucas Neagoe though overcame a huge holeshot to be still ahead at the finish of the round two final with a 9.538 (9.53). Martin Stevenson won a family duel for the Super Street final against Alan Stevenson, the pair also leaving the event one and two in the championship points.
No marks in the loss column yet for Joe Catanzariti this season, the Firebird racer went back to back for finals after he defeated Vince Panetta in the final.
Third gen racer Archie Boskovich went red in the Junior Dragster final handing the win to Jacob Longo. The Don Zammit dominance of Street Fighter has been broken for this round at least, with Glen Garlick taking the W over Jack Matosevic. Finally in Street Bike, Robert Gielb notched up a win on his Kawasaki over Jessy Barnes in the final.
The next round of the Speed Adict Clothing NSW Championship Series is April 1.
