Over the weekend Willowbank Raceway, racers and fans paid tribute to the late Queensland drag racing identity John ‘Stomper’ Winterburn with a fun filled festival like day at the venue.

There was dress-ups, show and shine displays, live music and of course drag racing as the racing community celebrated what ‘Stomper’ meant to them and drag racing a year on from this tragic passing.

One of Stomper’s many contributions to the sport was a popular eighth mile series run across South East Queensland for a number of years, and Willowbank Raceway brought back the event format for a fun day at the track in his memory.

In racing Cooper Leahy won Outlaws over Tony Webb, Leahy fittingly driving Grandfather Roly’s FED. Brett Farnell took out the Modified match race series over Jessica Saggers. In Super Sedan Fabian Romanin grabbed the win over Daniel Morris. While Super Street went to Warren Sander over Shane Locke.

Brian Alvisio won the two wheel war in Modified Bike defeating Simon Stevens in the final. Street Sedan final was won by Jacob Brown over Sarah Langridge, and Sienna Nunn lit the win light up in the Junior Dragster final over Deklan McConnell.
