The live event arm of the Street Outlaws juggernaut toured into Palm Beach International Raceway, Florida for the penultimate round of the No Prep Kings series.
Bringing the stars of Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws program to a lights out, eighth mile format, No Prep Kings aims to simulate street racing in a race track environment.
Drag racing fans tend to love or loathe the Street Outlaws, but plenty of spectators turned out to see the heroes of the show live.
I happened to be in Miami for reasons besides drag racing, so decided to check out No Prep Kings while I was in the area. This was my first time seeing the Street Outlaws cast live and it was impressive to see how big some of the queues were for driver autographs and merchandise. What struck me was how the atmosphere was built on rivalries and star building. Any drag racing event can deliver good runs on the track, but when the crowd knows more about the racers they are much more engaged.
The venue was straining under the crowd. Though it wasn’t quite a sell out going from the stands, the concessions and toilets were overwhelmed, as was the muddy parking area punters were forced to pay $10 to enter. The show itself didn’t start until 2pm, despite an advertised 12pm start time.
The drag racing itself was good, with no incidents and plenty of tight pairings. Kye Kelley won the event from Scott Taylor, which makes the points battle very interesting heading into the final round in Dallas, TX. Enjoy the photos below!
