A new year brings new cars, and as Sydney Dragway prepares for the opening round of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship, a pre-event testing hit out gave racers a chance to dust off any New Year hangovers or show off their new machinery.

The Jim Read Racing Top Fuel team took the opportunity for some more last minute testing. With conditions very hot and humid, the solid three passes should provide good data for this weekend.

There will be six Top Fuel dragsters contesting the inaugural round of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship this weekend, including the just announced addition of Larry Dixon who will be joining Rapisarda Autsport International.

Locky Ireland will be aboard Rod Barchet’s Suzuki Top Fuel Motorcycle this weekend.

In the new car stakes, we saw the debut of Frank Marchese/Daniel Szabolic’s pro-charged radial Camaro. The team moved the running gear from their record-setting Pontiac to the striking freshly imported ex-Jose Gonzalez Q80 Racing/El General Pro Mod machine.

Weather conditions were frankly horrid for the radial cars in attendance which also included John Ricca’s Camaro, so no representative times were run.

The Pro Mods faired slightly better, the world’s coolest DJ Carl Cox is back after a braking area crash in his twin turbo Mustang, and ran some low six second passes as he settles back into the seat.

Greg ‘Mauler’ Tsakiridis has a new look on the ICE Group Mustang.

Joe Murina dropped a couple of laps as well in his Pro Mod Corvette.

How cool is this! Liam O’Neill paying tribute to his favourite Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car.
