Round three of the Atura Blacktown NSW Championship Series was a little wind blown – well a lot. But the racers and officials persisted in what was a long day for the well deserved winners.
A more detailed report of the event will appear in issue#32 of Drag New Magazine, so make sure you grab that when it comes out, but here is the summation.
In Supercharged Outlaws Anthony Bool was the sole survivor in a carnage filled bracket with Shaun Liefting unable to front for a final when the Speedflow altered expired an engine big time in the previous round.
Brett O’Connor defeated Top Sportsman gun Neil Constantinou to claim his first event win since stepping out of Super Street.
Another first time winner in a bulging Modified bracket which has seen a number of new cars debut this year was Garry Durrington who held off a near perfect run from Allison Evans thanks to a better reaction time.
A pair of wily foes again faced off in Super Sedan, this time Sean Maher got the better of Michael Little.
Reigning Street Bike champion Bobbie-Jo Simmonds has stepped up to Modified Bike and put one over current champion and husband Robert on her way to winning the event against Geoff Veigel in the final
Anthony Gattellari drove his Holden ute to the win over former Junior Dragster racer Josh Leonello in Super Street.
Super Gas veteran John Somoracz put another trophy on the mantle with a win over Joe Catanzariti.
In a day for first time winners, Jessy Barnes almost made it another, just falling short against third generation racer Nicholas Polito in Junior Dragster.
David Jennings has made the perfect start to the season with two wins from the only two completed events, this time Don Zammit was his final round victim.
In a redemption story Colin Northcott won Street Bike after crashing out in the final of the same event last year.
And Peter Grant went red in the HAMBster final gifting the win to Ezio Cacciotti.
There was some Pro Series testing on hand as well, the Pro Alcohol Funny Cars of Brett White and Sainty with Alf Sciacca driving. White looked strong shutting off and still running a high five, while Sciacca suffered a fair boomer under the body on one run as they sort out the new car. It was shake city for the Pro Slammers of Brett Gillespie and Peter Blake. And Rod Barchet suffered a mammoth engine explosion on his nitrous sucking Top Bike that saw engine shrapnel and internals scattered all over the track.
Some wicked video action thanks to Madman Productions
