Today’s modern billet blown alcohol Hemi engines make plenty of horsepower, the trick is getting that power smoothly and efficiently to the track.

Gary Phillips is well known for being to be able to produce ample amounts of power with his Lucas Oil backed Studebaker Doorslammer but performances on the track have not shown the desired results. In an effort to improve the car’s consistency crew chief Cheyne Phillips has contracted Sydney’s RaceMAX Direct to supply the latest on adjustable shock technology from JRI Shocks.

Lucas Stude JRI

Cheyne commented “We are extremely excited to have JRI Shocks on board with our Lucas Oil Studebaker, we know we have the power to run fast having been 5.837 @ 253.28 mph. We have always felt our suspension program is where our weaknesses lie, we have never really been able to get after the tune up too much in low gear. We have taken the step of updating the rear suspension with the latest 4 way adjustable shocks from JRI, we will also have the full back up and track support they provide all their clients. The new JRI shocks will let us pour the coals to the car and see how quick we can really go. Bring on Nitro Thunder in Sydney”!!! At the recent NHRA Gatornationals at Gainsville JRI Shocks house driver Eric Latino set the Pro Mod world record at 5.72 @ 256 mph. Obviously, the Lucas Oil Studebaker team hope to achieve similar results and with help from RaceMAX and JRI Shocks there will be no reason why they can’t. The IHRA Thunder 400 series will be held at Sydney Dragway Nitro Thunder 5-6 May 2017 then to Willowbank Raceway 8-11 June for the 50th Winternationals.
