Gary Phillips has fired the opening Pro Alcohol salvo ahead of the next round of the 400 Thunder Aeroflow Drag Racing Series at this weekend’s East Coast Thunder – with a big number in testing.

Chasing his 23rd championship title, Phillips is currently poised in third place in the championship, ready to strike at the 40 point deficit to leader Steven Reed.

Pro Alcohol have not competed since the Winternationals back in June, the downtime has given Phillips – the most successful professional drag racer in Australian history – to draw up a plan of attack for the rest of the season.

“We decided to head down to Sydney Dragway early to test ahead of this weekend’s 400 Thunder Aeroflow Drag Racing Series round of the Pro Alcohol Championship,” said the team via Facebook.

“The time off gave us a chance to go through and freshen up all our parts, so we tested to run them in, plus try a couple of ideas. Really happy with the outcome of two runs on a hot track.”

In conditions less than ideal, with the phenomenon known as sunshine finally out over Sydney Dragway last weekend, Phillips ran a 5.69 at 209MPH planned 850ft shut off pass off the trailer, before dropping a 5.46 at 264MPH in the heat, to announce he is ready to attack this weekend’s event.

Qualifying begins this Friday at Sydney Dragway with racing using the All Run Format commencing on Saturday.
