More than 180 racers have completed a successful day one of the 47th Goldenstates at the Perth Motorplex on Friday evening (November 26).
At the close of Friday’s qualifying proceedings, Daniel Gregorini claimed the Crow Cams Top Qualifier Award presented by Decoglaze Glass Splashbacks and the accompanying $1000 cheque for the Top Doorslammer category, while Greg Durack finished the night on top of the time sheets for the Top Fuel Motorcycle class with one more round of qualifying to run for that ADRC class.
In the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, qualifying will also continue tomorrow ahead of the evening’s racing, with Brodie Zapppia (Summit Racing Equipment Junior Dragster), Steph Gullotto (Super Street), Paul Nieuwhof (Modified Bike), Rob Evans (Super Sedan), Paul Ryan (Modified), Alby Bakranich (Top Sportsman), Vince Belladonna (Supercharged Outlaws), Trent Anthony (Competition Bike), Steve Norman (Super Stock) and Steven Martin (Competition) currently topping the time sheets and the chase for their Decoglaze Glass Splashbacks Top Qualifier medallions in their respective classes heading into day two.
Gregorini was exceptionally happy with Friday’s result, which marks the first Group One Top Qualifier result for the Scratch and Match Motorsport team.
“It has been a very good day. We tested on Thursday night and while we had some good runs, we had some issues with the convertor, so we were fixing that today – we fired it up half an hour before Q1 so to turn it around was one thing and then to get the results we did just made it a perfect day,” Gregorini said.
“The last pass was a personal best mile per hour and over the speed record, so we will be trying to back that up on Saturday.
“This is our first ever Top Qualifier result in Group One racing, it was really good to take it off Zap and lock it down. Thank you to Crow Cams and Decoglaze Glass Splashbacks for supporting the Award and for all they do.
“When it comes to tomorrow, we treat every day as a different day. Hopefully the weather will stay the same and the track will be better with more laps down and we can get this heavy old car into the 5.60s and hopefully reach the record too – that is the plan!
“I would like to send a big thank you to my crew, as well as my major sponsors Scratch and Match Autocolour, Kerb Doctor, Westcoast Siteworks, Kendall Oils, S & S Industries and Dalisa Estate Winery for their support, and supporting partners Signbiz WA, PT Promotions, Go Print, Dirty Detailing, Final Drive Engineering, Gforce Race Cars, Resolution Racing Services, DMPE and Applied Automotive.”
