For Steven Ham and the Mobil 1 East Coast Lubes Team, last weekend’s Australian Nationals at Sydney Dragway saw the team post their best ever result since stepping up to the ANDRA Pro Series in the highly competitive Top Alcohol ranks.
A strong 5.69 second pass at 250mp/h despite having some electrical issues ushered the team into the number two qualifying spot in the first session of qualifying, leaving the team the breathing space to experiment in the next round, leading to some spectacular wheelstands, and a legion of new fans!
The Mobil 1 East Coast Lube Pontiac advanced past the first round of eliminations, disposing of fellow Queenslander Steven Read with flawless 5.63 at 252 mph; a best-ever performance for the team in competition.
Round two saw a wild race against dragster pilot Wayne Newby, and despite cutting a near perfect start light, Ham overpowered the track allowing Newby to take the win.
Sitting comfortably third in the Top Alcohol championship points, Ham is excited about the challenge of the remaining four rounds in the series, boasting the support of East Coast Lubes, a Distributor For Mobil One.
“We’re just so honoured to have such a great company on board with us and believing in our dream of winning a championship,” said an elated Ham.
“We’re only spring chickens in this game compared to the experience of some of the legends in the category, but our racing partners in Mobil 1, East Coast Lubes, RD Williams Excavator Parts, D&M Plant Hire and BMI Industries are giving us the best chance possible of serving up to the best in the business, and for that, we are extremely grateful.”
Ham will return to Sydney Dragway on October 30 and 31 for his next appearance in the Mobil 1 Funny car for Round Two of ANDRA Pro Series Top Alcohol.
