IHRA and 400 Thunder Management are pleased to announce that the category IHRA Pro Mod will be run over 4 events during the 2020 400 Thunder Calendar at Sydney Dragway and Willowbank Raceway.
The exciting IHRA Pro Mod category will ultimately feature turbo, supercharged, nitrous and pro charged V8 / 6 cylinder race cars all mixing it together in a new racing format created especially for the category.
The racing format for IHRA Pro Mod will be unique, and is designed to create a great spectacle for the race fans, and at the same time, provide great racing and cost containment for the racers.
The IHRA Pro Mod Series will utilise the Heads Up / Pro Start system, but race teams will have to run to a target ET of 5.85. The racer who has the best reaction time and can run the closest to the target ET of 5.85, whether under or over 5.85, will be the true winner.
This new format is all about consistency and the skill of the driver/race team to put the best package on the track. The racing will be fierce and cost effective. (The target ET may be subject to change)
IHRA CEO Maurice Allen said, “Pro Mod style racing is recognised across the world for its wide variety of spectacular race cars and IHRA Australia is proud to assist in the development of this category and cannot wait to see it arrive into the main game of the 400 Thunder Professional Drag Racing events’”
400 Thunder General Manager Steve Bettes added’ “Pro Mod racers and race fans alike, have been wanting this category formalised at major events in Australia for many years and we are very pleased to be able make this happen in 2020.”
Having IHRA Ppro Mod join the existing professional and sportsman categories at 400 Thunder events with their unique racing format, will create a complete racing smorgasbord like no other for the race fans. We cannot wait for the first event at Sydney Dragway on Jan 18th, as we can now confirm that 11 IHRA Pro Mod racers have entered for the series debut’”
