One of the newest members of the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car series is ready to take it to the heavy hitters as the north Queensland local and long time drag racer, Harold Campbell debuts the Insanity Dodge Omni at Mackay’s Palmyra Dragway.
The Insanity ‘fuel coupe’ has been in cotton wool for some time, with Campbell waiting for the right time to bring the fan favourite back to the track.
“It’s true,” explained Campbell, “It’s just been sitting in the back corner of my shed!”
The car was originally planned for debut at the Benaraby event but some minor technical issues prevented the car from making a competition pass.
Although a car with a strong history and pedigree, the nitro funny car has been completely re-invented for the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car events.
Campbell added “It’s been rebuilt from front to back with new everything, including the nitro engine.”
The car will retain one feature however, the beautiful original paintwork from many years ago, and it looks better than new.
Series Manager Steve Bettes commented, “It’s great to see Harold back racing with his friends and family.
“Mackay is going to be a great event and to have Harold Campbell, Paul Shackleton, Glenn Moore and the Peirano family as the ‘locals’, will just add to whole thing!”
