Testing ahead of the tomorrow’s event has been hectic when the world’s fastest compacts battle for Jamboree glory.
In Factory Xtreme, ten of the quickest and fastest turbo door cars of their kind are set to back up their multiple world record performances as the premiere sport compact drag racing event – the Brisbane Jamboree lights up Willowbank Raceway for one day and night of epic, side-by-side racing.
In a category that includes the world’s fastest Toyota, Nissan, Mazda and Mitsubishi, and more world records than you can poke a stick at, the full field of big boost Factory Xtreme weapons are ready to unleash low six-second performances at more than 235mph at Australia’s fastest drag venue.
Many teams have used the week leading up to the Jamboree as an opportunity to test their cars on the Willowbank Raceway surface with largely impressive results.
Australia’s fastest four-cylinder racer, Jett Racing’s Collin Willshire took his two-litre Mitsubishi Evo-powered Eclipse to a world record 218mph pass, proving that what the little engine lacks in cubes it more than makes up for in horsepower and racing credibility.
Stepping things up in the biggest possible way, the Scott Porter team will be campaigning two twin-turbo V6 Nissans at the Brisbane Jamboree with the second car being piloted by gun UK sport compact racer, John Bradshaw. The die-hard Nissan enthusiast holds numerous records in Europe and is no stranger to 6.5sec passes. Testing went well for the SPR crew so look for both John and Scott come finals time.
Fresh from the paint booth and ready to back up its Winternationals final round appearance is the Mazda 6 SP from Pac Performance in Sydney. Sporting a changed-up colour scheme and the same bad-ass 222mph capable 20B rotary engine, George says he has his confidence back and that if everything goes to plan he expects big things from his car.
The Rotormaster and Gas Racing crew led by ‘Smokin’ Joe Signorelli can’t be counted out either with Joe no stranger to Jamboree finals and awe inspiring world record achievements. Look for 230mph to be the starting point for the iconic gold Celica, the team tested solidly last outing at Sydney Dragway in the 6.4’s
The Top RPM Celica went 6.72 at 192 but it was anything but clean, rattling the tyres hard at the top of first gear.
Testing was not limited to just the Factory Xtreme boys with World Records bombed by other Sport Compact machines.
Flying Kiwi Reece McGregor reset his own GTR world speed record at 198mph on a 7.58 second pass.
The Mercury Motorsports crew ripped a off the trailer GTR World Record of their own, becoming the quickest of the breed on radials with a 7.93 at 175mph.
Not everyone has sights set on World Records when personal bests are enough, like Mick Farrall who ran a 7.38 PB in his Pro Turbo RX7.
Jason Payne debuted his new GTR and went straight into the seven second zone.
Yet another new ride, Craig Dyson was steering Dave Dekleyn’s RX4.
Andrew Dyson carded his first 7 second run and a best of 7.75 at 166mph.
The Brisbane Jamboree is scheduled for one exciting day and night at Willowbank Raceway, Champions Way, Willowbank QLD. Tickets are available at the gate. Children 13 and under admitted free.
