JIM READ RACING KEEN FOR RETURN TO HAPPY HUNTING GROUND

Hydraulink Jim Read Racing is hopeful its upcoming return to Willowbank Raceway will bring a return to winning results, with the team enjoying plenty of success at the Queensland facility in the past.

The team will be on-track at the Ipswich venue across January 6 and 7 for New Year Nitro – the latest round of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship.

“We are definitely looking forward to heading to Willowbank Raceway. Top Fuel hasn’t been at Willowbank since June of 2019 so it will be great to get back there and put on a show for our Queensland fans,” Hydraulink Jim Read Racing driver, Phil Read, said.

“Willowbank Raceway is like a second home to Top Fuel racing and it has hosted many amazing Top Fuel performances over the years – hopefully we can add to that list at New Year Nitro!”

As well as plenty of enthusiasm and vigour, the team will be bringing US drag racing royalty with them to the event.

Jim ‘Jim O’ Oberhofer, a leader in the professional drag racing world for nearly four decades, will be joining the team for both New Year Nitro and the following Top Fuel Slam event at Sydney Dragway (January 27/28).

“Jim O is an absolute legend of the sport, and we are excited to have him joining our team once again as we look for a win to kick off our 2023,” Hydraulink Jim Read Racing Crew Chief, Bruce Read, said.

“We have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes all year long as we look to advance our program. We will head to Willowbank Raceway with some new parts on the car and between Jim and I, hopefully we can give Phil an amazing set-up to tackle Willowbank Raceway and put on the best show possible for the fans.

“The track holds a lot of really great memories for us a team – from event wins and records to the first ever 300mph pass, we have had some really good times in Queensland and are hopeful we can do so again.

“We weren’t as good as we had hoped to be at the last round in Perth. We did redeem ourselves in the last run with the C-Final winning 3.834 second pass at 506.18 kilometres per hour, but by then it was too late.

“But with Jim’s help and a couple of new components on the car to improve our consistency, I am feeling very positive as we look to head to Queensland in January.”

The New Year Nitro event will be held across Friday January 6 and Saturday January 7 at Willowbank Raceway. For event information, go to www.topfuelchampionship.com.au or www.willowbankraceway.com.au
