While the crews have been busy turning the cars around getting them ready for JRR drivers Phil Read and Martin Stamatis, preparations for one of the nation’s biggest annual events has already attracted in excess of 480 Entrants, with 85 of those coming from the just the professional categories alone.
In an exciting end to the season, just 25 points separate the three main contenders in this year’s battle for the Australian Top Fuel Championship. Currently, Stamatis leads with 505 points, while Read is just 15 points behind him with 490 points, and Phil Lamattina just 10 points behind Read with 480 points, so it’s going to be a great battle to see who will be crowned Australian Top Fuel Champion.
A review back of the 2009/2010 ANDRA Pro Series season has seen both Stamatis and Read for Auto One, Wynn’s, Valvoline, McDonalds, MTU Detroit Diesel, Hurlcon, Snap on and Billview separately make all of the Finals, and has left them both in a strong position with the Championship points chase.
While gremlins initially plagued Read’s car earlier in the season, Stamatis was also having his own problems with the supercharger belt coming off on nearly every pass. But after some cluey detective work was done to firstly replace some parts on Read’s dragster, and then for Stamatis by replacing his supercharger drive belt pulley system, the changes were instant, and saw both cars running hard and competitively again.
So with both of the car’s gremlins now sorted, the team at JRR are confident going into the 2010 Winternationals that they have two strong and competitive cars again, and hopeful of quick and fast times for the final race of the season.
