JRR READY TO CONTINUE TITLE FIGHT IN PERTH

Hydraulink Jim Read Racing is heading to this weekend’s MAC Track Westernationals tied for second in the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship, after top qualifying and going all the way to the A-Final at the last round.

The March 4 and 5 event is shaping up to be a barn stormer, with seven Top Fuel dragsters taking part and absolutely no one giving any quarter as the championship chase continues, with only three rounds left to run.

“What you are going to see in Perth this weekend is a real gunfight. Everyone is trying to chase down Damien Harris at the top and has the championship and event glory front of mind,” Hydraulink Jim Read Racing driver, Phil Read, said.

“Peter Xiberras and I are tied on second after our A-Final showdown in Sydney, and you can never discount Wayne Newby, Phil Lamattina and Shane Olive from any battle. And you can rest assured too that newcomer Kyle Putland will be wanting to put his best foot forward in his second event with us.

“The long and the short of it is, no one is going to be leaving anything on the table, and the intensity is going to be super high. There are only three rounds left, and there is absolutely no time left for playing around.”

The Hydraulink Jim Read Racing team have been putting in a lot of hard yards both on and off the track to ensure they can be as prepared as possible for this second half of the season.

“We had a good test session prior to the Sydney event and then went on to Top Qualify at that event before an electrical gremlin crept in and plagued us on race day, although we were able to overcome it somewhat to make it through for the runner-up spot,” Hydraulink Jim Read Racing Crew Chief, Bruce Read, said.

“We have been working hard since that event to make sure we can eliminate that issue and ensure our preparation is top notch.

“We are certainly looking forward to getting into it in Perth and well and truly going for it.

“It could be hot which will throw a curveball to everyone, and with a seven-car field, top qualifying will be exceptionally important as it will gift you the bye run in the first round like we had in Sydney.

“Whatever happens, we can guarantee one thing, and that is that the drag racing fans of West Australia are in for one hell of a show this Saturday and Sunday at the Perth Motorplex.”

The MAC Track Westernationals will be held at the Perth Motorplex across Saturday March 4 and Sunday March 5. Gates open 11.00am on both Saturday and Sunday, with the ‘main show’ on-track from 5.30pm to 10.00pm (all times approximate). For full event information, visit https://motorplex.com.au/52nd-westernationals/
