Judd in form for Goldenstates win

Perth drag racer, Robin Judd, is looking to win his second Goldenstates Top Doorslammer title at the Perth Motorplex this weekend – Friday and Saturday, November 18-19.

A win at Perth this weekend will also see Judd vying for the lead in the 2011-2012 ANDRA (Australian National Drag Racing Association) Pro Series Top Doorslammer championship.

Fresh from winning the Perth Motorplex season-opening event last month and reaching his third-straight Australian Nationals final at Sydney Dragway in September, Judd knows his Aeroflow/William Buck team must reach the final at the 40th Annual Goldenstates to have a chance at winning the 2011-2012 Australian Top Doorslammer championship.

Judd was runner-up in the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 ANDRA Pro Series Top Doorslammer championship series after winning the 2009 and 2010 Nationals and 2009 Goldenstates titles and runner-up in the 2008 Goldenstates.

Last season (2010-2011), Judd finished fourth in the Pro Series Top Doorslammer championship series.

Despite winning the season-opening 2010 Nationals, Judd lost in round one at last year’s Goldenstates. He then found the point’s gap between last year’s Goldenstates’ winner and runner-up, Mark Belleri and John Zappia, too hard to make-up.

With interstate and local WA competitors who race in at least one Perth and one East Coast ANDRA Pro Series championship event earning 50 percent bonus points, it is important Judd secures maximum bonus points to give him a chance at winning the championship series.

“After winning our second Nationals title, we lost our way for a while last season after coming so close to winning the championship the previous two seasons.

“With the Perth Motorplex events carrying 50 percent bonus points, it is important to go to the final at the Goldenstates and ensure our Aeroflow/William Buck team is right up in the (championship series) points chase,” Judd said.

After being the first Australian Top Doorslammer racer to run into 5.7-second zone – a 5.779sec at Sydney Dragway in September – runner-up at the season-opening Australian Nationals and running a series of 5.8-second passes at the Motorplex last month, Judd believes his Aeroflow/William Buck team has the momentum to win the Goldenstates, at his 80th ANDRA Pro Series event start.

“Running the 5.7-second pass and winning the Motorplex season-opening event in the 5.8sec zone, my Aeroflow/William Buck team is confident it has the momentum to win the event and set us up well for the (ANDRA) Pro Series. It is these factors that win events and championships,” Judd said.

Peter Kapiris leads the ANDRA Pro Series with 110 points, followed by Judd with 87 points and Zappia (73pts).
