Kelly’s back

Following a devastating Nitro Champs crash totally destroying her Modified dragster, former Australian Champion Kelly Corbett has a new ride which she has debuted at Willowbank Raceway in testing.

The car was imported from the USA ready to race.

“We purchased the car from America as a turnkey deal from Brian Martel who was currently racing it in the NHRA series in the super comp bracket,” said Kelly.

“With the help of some great people we had the car inspected and transported in no time. It was amazing how it all worked to get it here so quick. Being that we purchased it turnkey (which wasnt the original plan) as we have now sold the engine out of the other car.
The new dragster offers some improvements over Kelly’s previous ride.

“It is a 4 link Undercover dragster with a 555ci big block Chev and is of very similar performance level as the previous car, but we are much further ahead now having the 4 link,” she said.

And the car tested flawlessly on her first outing.

“I first drove it on Wednesday night the 19th of October at a test and tune. It is a beautiful car to drive and so different with the 4 link,” she said.

“So far only done a few passes and once I’ve had more seat time the comparison between the two cars will be easier, but already we see major advantages to this one from the previous car.

“My quickest time in the previous car was a 7.44 @ 179mph and already this car has gone 7.47 @ 179mph. I’m excited to see improvement in its performance.

Kelly will run the car in competition for the first time at the Super Sportsman event on November 5th at Willowbank Raceway, and she also wants those who made it possible to get her back on track so quickly.

“I want to say a big thank you to those who helped us to get the car here and so quickly, it really made the whole deal possible. Also to Brian, the previous owner of the car, he has been such a great help to us with information, honesty and preparing the car for its transportation to Australia. He is a true professional,” she said.
