ANDRA Top Fuel racer, Phil Lamattina, will turn his attention to the new Outlaw Nitro Funny Car class as he gets behind the wheel of a former NHRA Championship winning nitro funny car.
“The car looks like it’s brand new, I have to thank Graeme Cowin for sourcing the car for our team, it’s a nice bit of gear,” exclaimed Lamattina.
“This car has got an amazing history and I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel of this thing, it’s going to be an animal,” smiled the carrot king.
“Aaron (Hambridge) is going through the car along with the Graeme (Cowin) and we are all just really excited about the event. It’s not every day you drive a nitro funny car, it’s not every day you get a chance to write history and it’s certainly not every day you get to race a guy like Ron Capps.”
Lamattina will join the NHRA superstar as well as some of Australia and New Zealand’s most talented racers at the November 23 event.
Lamattina added, “I’m blown away with the professionalism that has gone into this series and this event, it’s really going to be something special.”
Phil was less forthcoming when it came to the name for new car.
“You’ll have to wait and see, every car in this series has its own name and its own personality, ours will too but we can’t ruin the surprise just yet,” laughed Lamattina.
With 13 confirmed entries, the Sydney event will be the biggest collection of nitro-powered cars ever assembled in Australia.
Cowin was equally please that Lamattina had confirmed his attendance.
“It’s great to have Phil on the entry list. He’s a big name in Australian drag racing and this will give him a chance to experience a new series, with new cars and a new vibe in the pits. Family friendly, non-stop entertainment and a whole lot of fun,” smiled Cowin.
The inaugural Outlaw Nitro Funny Car event will be held at Sydney Dragway November 23, 2013.
