Queensland’s premier drag racing facility is set for a Mad March with no less than three events to hit the Willowbank Raceway quarter-mile over the next three weekends.
First up is the latest Sportsman event (Saturday 16 March) followed by the return of the popular annual APSA Pro Street Shootout (Saturday 23 March), before the brand new Santo’s Cranes Super 3 Extreme Drag Race hits the track over Good Friday and Easter Saturday (29 and 30 March).
Willowbank Raceway Managing Director Steve Bettes said he was excited for a frantic month of on-track activity ramping up to a paradigm shifting event for the facility.
“Three great events in three weekends, with the third being a fantastic new event featuring professional drag racing at Willowbank Raceway during Easter for the first time in years – what more could you ask for!” said Bettes.
“With entries now closed for the APSA Pro Street and Easter events and closing on Wednesday for the Sportsman outing, the final elements for a massive March are falling in to place.”
This weekend’s Sportsman event will feature the latest track championship round, including racing for the Allstar Batteries Supercharged Outlaws, SuperComp and Gasoline Alley Competition Bike categories following the abandonment of their last two championship rounds due to weather.
“Saturday’s Sportsman event is set to be bursting at the seams with the addition of three extra categories to the scheduled line-up,” said Bettes.
The APSA Pro Street Shootout of 23 March will see a range of racers from the Outlaw 10.5, Outlaw Radial, Pro Street Blown, Pro Street Unblown, Pro Street Bike, Modified Street Blown, Modified Street Unblown, X275, True Street Unblown, DYO brackets; as well as exhibition racers and off-track entertainment including the Great Chrome Bumper Show and Shine.
“March’s APSA Pro Street Shootout at Willowbank Raceway has quickly gained a reputation as one of the premier Pro Street events of the year,” said Bettes.
“From Pro Street stars to ANDRA professional racers, the entry list features talent at every level, guaranteeing top shelf racing for those on the track and in the stands.”
March 2013 will then receive a big send-off courtesy of the brand new Santo’s Cranes Super 3 Extreme Drag Race event, also featuring the Louie Rapisarda Top Fuel Trophy Race.
Featuring a new race format for Top Fuel and Top Alcohol as well as NHRA Top Fuel royalty Larry Dixon alongside his celebrated NHRA crew chief Lee Beard, the Santo’s Cranes Super 3 Extreme Drag Race will bring back professional racing at Willowbank Raceway during the Easter period for the first time in many years.
“For many years, Willowbank Raceway was the place to be in Easter, and we can’t wait to start bringing that tradition back with a bang across Good Friday and Easter Saturday 2013,” said Bettes.
“With massive names such as Larry Dixon coming all the way from the United States to join full fields of Top Fuel and Top Alcohol racers, plus exciting exhibition racers such as Top Bike champion Chris Matheson, this event is shaping up to be something else entirely.”
