Chris Matheson and his Nitro Voodoo Team have continued their success in this year’s 400 Thunder Top Bike Championship, with a runner up finish at the Santo’s Super Thunder event at Willowbank Raceway.
Matheson faced off with long-time rival Chris Porter, beating Porter to the line, only to tag a timing cone near the finish line, resulting in disqualification.
“It’s all part of the deal with these machines, some days luck is on your side, other days it’s not,” he said. “In the final I struggled to see due to my visor fogging. It was getting to risky in the dark, with little vision drifting, hence my brush with the timing marker.
“It was a good weekend for our team, second place allowed us to pick up a bag of points and some good data for our engine programme, which will help us at the next round in Sydney.
“The event was run in great Autumn weather, with a big family-orientated crowd, which was great to see.”
Matheson still holds the track record at Sydney Dragway and is hopeful it will prove a happy hunting ground once again.
“We have had plenty of success at Sydney Dragway over the years. We still hold the track record set a few years back in the 6.0s. With only two rounds left in our championship, the next round will be a critical one, setting the stage for the Grand Final at the Winternationals in June.”
Matheson thanked his sponsors and supporters: GT Radiators and Machining, Kitten Car Care Products, CRC, Rocket Industries, Performance Wholesale, Great Southern Diesel Service, WebCam, PDS Graphics, Worldwide Bearings, Hi-Side Leathers, Boninfante Friction Inc., Ballistic Racing, Aeroflow, with special thanks to Steve and Larry McBride.
