Gulf Western Oil Nitro Thunder proved a ready challenge for the Mega Pro Stock team, with a strong field entered.
After running quickest in Friday testing, the team’s Pro Stock stable of Aaron and Tyronne Tremayne were quietly confident of doing well, even after Saturday morning’s practice session saw the top four cars separated by only four hundredths of a second, led by Wayne Daley’s Dodge with a stellar 6.94 pass. The Tremaynes were not too unhappy to see Daley at the top, as they supply the horsepower for the team.
In round one Daley improved to a 6.90 and won against Rick Chilton, with Aaron second quickest on a 6.94 solo, while Tyronne defeated Bruce Leake with an off-pace 7.00.
Between round maintenance and a quick fire up revealed that Tyronne would not be able to front for round two, in what would have been his most important race of the series so far as he was due to face Jason Hedges in a critical contest for second place in the championship.
Daley and Aaron were able to take wins in round two however and would meet in the final.
After a Mega effort from the crew on Tyronne’s car he was back for round three to hopefully get another 20 points and keep his championship hopes alive. It wasn’t to be as a throttle linkage broke, stopping the car dead in what was a plagued weekend for the black Mega Fuels Camaro.
That left Aaron to try and ensure eight consecutive wins for the Tremaniac team, taking on Daley.
With five hundredths on the field Daley did not have to push the tree and that allowed Aaron to take a .010 to .056 holeshot, only for Daley to drive around Aaron at the finish line by just seven thousandths of a second.
Team principal Kerry Tremayne said the result still saw Aaron with a healthy gap in the points.
“The runner-up position improved Aaron’s lead in the championship and with just the Winternationals to go he will be hard to beat,” he said. “Tyronne’s hope of a championship is over and the runner-up spot will be difficult too with Jason Hedges having a handy points lead.”
The Mega team were not just represented in Pro Stock as Rolinia Tremayne took on the field in Competition. After recently giving birth to daughter Matika, Rolinia qualified fourth in her B/DA dragster with a strong 7.31 pass.
Unfortunately round one would not be so kind.
“Rolinia’s reaction times have been good but in round one the engine stumbled as she brought the RPM up, she waited for it to clear but ended up with a non representative reaction time,” Kerry said. “Her only consolation was her quickest ever pass of 7.12, so the whole team was happy still as this puts her in a strong position for doing well at the Winternationals.
