Queensland-based racer Paul Messineo will take the wheel of The Bandit rather than his more familiar Dark Horse Mustang as than Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro funny Car show heads north to Mackay’s Palmyra Dragway, May 16.
Messineo, who touched the wall at the massive Adelaide event is his regular ride – The Dark Horse Mustang – was not going to make the event due to the repairs required to get the Mustang back in action for Palmyra.
“The drama in Adelaide was a real pity,” explained Messineo.
“We had a great car in Adelaide and we just stepped it up a bit too much and broke traction.
“The car got a little sideways and we brushed the wall, it’s not something you want to do but it’s not the end of the Dark Horse, that’s for sure!” smiled the affable Queenslander.
Former Australian Top Fuel Champion, Darren Morgan who has stepped aside to let Messineo take the wheel for the Queensland round, drove the Bandit Trans-Am in Adelaide.
Messineo was grateful to AONFC boss Graeme Cowin to get the nod to drive black Trans Am.
“It’s such a great looking car and it has also proved to be a very fast car too, I can’t wait to get some runs done. I think we might be the dark horse in the field, even when driving The Bandit”
The Mackay event is building to be one of the best held at the picturesque Queensland venue.
Palmyra Club President, Kylie London added, “it’s all coming together, we have a big field of funny cars as well as a big field of local racers all ready to go. It looks like it’s going to be a great night, so don’t miss out!”
“Tickets at the gate, but get in early, we are expecting a bumper night!”
