Around 2500 enthusiasts headed to Willowbank Raceway at the weekend for the 12th running of Mopar Sunday.
While wet weather saw the latest round of the Street Series unfortunately abandoned the day before, Sunday saw beautiful blue skies greet the Mopar Sunday flock as they enjoyed a great day out both on and off the track.
Highlight was Peter Leahy’s 5.90 Outlaw Nitro pass….well the engine is Hemi based!
Steve Easton took a break from crewing for NHRA legend John Force to have a skid in his Daytona, clocking a 6.70 best.
Racing results saw Gary Smith win the 0-10.99 second bracket in his pro-charged Neon.
Runner up was Mark Ayson in his Charger.
Shane Cattle wrapped up the 11.00-12.99 second bracket.
The Baracuda of Geoff Ryan took the runner up.
In the 13.00-14.99 second class it was Greg McMahon claiming the trophy.
With Timothy Chant falling just short of the win in that final.
And finally Soni Tyson won 15+ seconds class.
With Ashley Knowles breaking out in her Valiant in the other lane.
Off-track the praise flowed for Jodi Wilson (Top Aussie Coupe/Charger and Top Paint), Bob Hamilton (Top US Mopar and Top Engine Bay), John Masterton (Top Sedan), Jason Wendt (Top Commercial), Alan Visser (Top Show Car Original), Rolf Kadinsky (Top Show Car Original and Unrestored), Zane Hau (Top Show Car Modified), Zane Black (Best Modern 4/6 cyl), David Compton (Best Modern 8 cyl), Barbara Sherrard (Top Jeep Original) and Eugene Schledewitz (Top Jeep Modified/Extreme) in the Surf City Show ānā Shine, while Eric Sheppard (V8 naturally aspirated), Paul Kelsall (V8 blown), Stephen Kopp (6 cyl naturally aspirated) and Jon Bannink (4 cyl naturaly aspirated) took out the Dyno competition.
