Four-times Australian Top Fuel Champion Darren Morgan will be racing an Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car with the Victorian native set to make his debut in the new nitro tour at Fuchs South Coast Raceway in Portland, Victoria on January 3.
Morgan will take the wheel of ‘The Bandit’ Trans Am, the car themed around the movie Smokey and the Bandit, which was driven at Sydney Dragway’s Night of Fire by Aaron Hambridge.
Morgan was excited to get a taste of some nitro action behind the wheel of a funny car.
“Getting in the funny car will be a new experience after spending so many years racing Top Fuel dragsters,” he said.
“The Bandit was the quickest and fastest car in Sydney, so we have a bit of a hot rod on our hands! I know we can rustle some feathers with some of the regulars.”
Morgan is currently taking a hiatus from the Top Fuel series and was keen to take up the opportunity from Graeme Cowin.
“Of course I was! Who doesn’t want to race funny cars!” laughed Morgan.
“Graeme has done a great job with this series and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Series manager Steve Bettes added, “We are delighted to have Darren on-board as a part of our series. He’s obviously a great driver and he’s also a great person to have in the pits, he has plenty of knowledge and of course plenty of fans!
“This is a great part of the year to run this event, close to the beach and with so much to see and do, it’s worth the trip even if you’re not local. The team from South Coast Raceway do an amazing job and it’s great to be able to put this event together with them.
“We will have the full calendar announced shortly but this is the perfect way to kick off the year!”
The Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars event is January 3, 2015 at Fuchs South Coast Raceway, Portland, Victoria.
