The National Drag Racing Championship has today revealed a comprehensive national championship calendar. This announcement includes the much-anticipated professional categories as well the second half of the Aeroflow Sportsman Championship Series.
The NDRC commenced in 2023 to create a national championship for both Group One and Sportsman competitors under the guiding principle of ‘One Way. Forward.’ In its second season, the championship brings a clearer program that is simpler to engage with for both racers and fans.
Developing the new season calendar has been a monumental task with excellent collaboration from venues, broadcast partners, racer groups, sponsors and supporting promoters.
After three years working as promoters in drag racing following 15 years of staging Australia’s largest motorsport festivals, the team behind the NDRC are more ready than ever to face the challenges of making drag racing a sustainable sport with a pathway to the future.
Traditionally, drag racing promoters and venues have staged events that feature as many categories at the one event as possible. This is simply not sustainable in the current economic environment where fans face cost of living pressures that mean they must choose between attending drag racing or all the other things they and their families want to do.
Given that, the coming season sees a new approach where various Group One categories will race at a number of track-based events. Top Doorslammer, Top Motorcycle and the new NDRC Pro Drag Racing events featuring Pro Alcohol, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle, and Pro Mod will be headlining events at stand-alone events around the country.
The NDRC Pro Drag Racing events are headed by an integral member of the NDRC team, Jason Hedges. With the support of venues, Jason will manage and promote the racing of Pro Alcohol, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle, and Pro Mod at three standalone events this year, and this will grow in years to come.
In July this year, the NDRC surveyed sportsman racers to get their feedback on the structure of the championship and a range of other issues. One standout piece of feedback was that a single national title was simpler to understand and made choosing when and where they should race much easier. The new season will see a single Aeroflow Sportsman Championship culminating with a traditional Grand Final round at the Winternationals, seeing the removal of the conference system for sportsman racers.
Race day at six events will be broadcast live and free around Australia and the world.
“Season two of the National Drag Racing Championship will be amazing,” NDRC co-owner Andy Lopez said.
“There’s plenty of great events to choose from at Australia’s top racing venues. The calendar is the result of collaboration with our major venue partners in Willowbank, Sydney, The Bend and Motorplex, the ANDRA Regional Series, and other standalone Aeroflow sportsman events.
“Since day one we’ve shown that we’re listening to racers when it comes to creating the type of national championship they want to race for, and the changes we’ve made for the coming season are a reflection of that. We’ve simplified the championship. We’ve engaged with track partners and other promoters to deliver a calendar that is sustainable now and for the future.
“Between the NDRC, venues, sponsors and promoters, millions of dollars are about to be committed this season to create opportunities for racers to follow their passion. We absolutely respect the investment from racers, and their passion and effort deserve to be shown in the best light to the widest audience.
“I’m going to be really honest. There will be a lot of excitement about this calendar in the racer group. I know there will be some who feel that they’re not getting what they want from us. Our message is clear. This NDRC calendar is sustainable for the tracks and promoters who take the financial risk to stage events. It has been built to allow growth.

The NDRC calendar commences at Dragway at The Bend (October 18-20) with a huge nitro double-header when the Spring Nationals present Top Fuel, XPRO Nitro Funny Car, Top Doorslammer and the Aeroflow Sportsman Championship. The nitro action continues just a few weeks later at The Bend when Top Fuel Motorcycle headlines the Dragbike Nationals on November 9.
From there, NDRC Pro Racing (Pro Alcohol, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle, and Pro Mod) heads to Sydney Dragway (November 15-16), before the show heads west to the Goldenstates (November 22-23), which will be headlined by Top Doorslammer and Top Fuel Motorcycle.
The new year begins at the Perth Motorplex with Nitro Slam (January 4), before New Year Nitro blasts Willowbank Raceway into 2025 thanks to Top Fuel, XPRO Nitro Funny Car and the Aeroflow Sportsman Championship (January 10-11). NDRC Pro Racing takes on The Bend (February 8-9), before Top Fuel, Top Fuel Motorcycle, Top Doorslammer and the Aeroflow Sportsman Championship take on the Westernationals (March 1-2).
NDRC Pro Racing hits Sydney (March 21-22), before The Bend shakes to the sound of Top Fuel, XPRO Nitro Funny Car, Top Doorslammer and the Aeroflow Sportsman Championship at the Riverbend Nationals (April 5-6).
Sydney will then host the Nitro Champs (May 3-4) with an epic group one line up including Top Fuel, XPRO Nitro Funny Car, Top Doorslammer, Pro Alcohol, Top Fuel Motorcycle, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle, Pro Mod and the Aeroflow Sportsman Championship. Willowbank Raceway features the same categories a month later when the Winternationals make their spectacular return (June 5-8).
Aeroflow Sportsman Championship racers can also score Championship points at a number of ANDRA Regional Series events and other stand-alone events.

PDRC to Deliver Pro Drag Racing Championship Categories and Events for the NDRC
The Pro Drag Racing Championship (PDRC) is an exciting new promotion that will be delivering Professional Championship drag racing categories and events for the National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC).
“Andy (Lopez), Nathan (Prendergast) and the NDRC team, which I have been part of from the beginning, have done a great job uniting the sport and delivering the first season of NDRC around the country. I am absolutely honoured and proud to take an even more significant role in the delivery of NDRC events moving forward,” enthused PDRC Promoter Jason Hedges.
The PDRC comprises a Championship category lineup including Pro Alcohol, Pro Mod, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle for the 2024-25 season plus the electrifying innovation featuring the world,s quickest and fastest six-cylinders, four-cylinders, and rotaries in the new Pro Import class as an exhibition series to further evolve the Australian Professional drag racing scene.
For the 2024-25 season, the PDRC will be hosting innovative events at Sydney Dragway (NSW) on November 15-16, 2024, The Dragway at the Bend (SA) on February 8-9, 2025 and Sydney Dragway on March 21-22, 2025. These events will feature all the PDRC Professional categories, with their rounds forming part of the NDRC Series in addition to the existing National Drag Racing Championship Events such as the Nitro Champs and season ending Winternationals.
PDRC will be working hand in hand, “One way. Forward.”, with the NDRC to deliver world class racing for their valued competitors and fans with this thrilling initiative.
“I travelled with Andy Lopez and his Team in the inaugural NDRC season and the amount of moving parts required to deliver these events that the spectators or racers do not see is simply mind blowing,” adds Hedges.
“Whilst I know this is a big financial commitment from myself, I truly believe our sport is on the cusp of great things. Working together “one way forward” as partners we can open all manner of opportunities to ensure sustainability for many years to come.
“Along with the race teams competing in the NDRC Pro Drag Racing Championship, the traveling Competition Team and I will endeavour to deliver the best experience for the racer and fans alike.
