The 2015 edition of Australia’s most elite car show – Meguiar’s MotorEx – was back in Sydney and as usual the drag racing world was again well represented with racers revealing a number or new look machinery.
A record 26742 spectators turned out to marvel at the machinery on display and feel the thunder of Mark Mariani’s Make-A-Wish Top Fuel dragster through a number of fire ups over the weekend.
Mariani too used the event to display a new look for the team’s dragster.
Sydney Dragway used the event for some publicity, the stand featured Brody Davies Junior Dragster, Rod Barchet’s nitrous bike and Steven Sarkis recently rebuilt Nova.
The first public display of JS Racing Camaro Top Doorslammer that will be driven by Sam Fenech, the team have moved on from the Pro Street Outlaw 10.5 with their Grand Am and looking to make some noise in Top Doorslammer – the car is the ex Paul Cannuli Camaro.
The former Bill Gable/Alex Souris Supercharged Outlaw Pontiac is looking spectacular in the hands of Alex Makdessi now. The crew at Custom Bodyworks including Danny Makdessi – who owns the Outlaw 10.5 Valiant – meticulously applied the paint and are also responsible for the Megatilt Top Doorslammer looks among many other cars on display at MotorEx.
We can not wait to see Mark Hayes’ nitrous snorting Torana on track, the Torana is everything you would expect quality wise from the Pro Street icon and was awarded the Pro Competition winner at the show.
Still on the Pro Street front MINCER is back in the spotlight and is another car that we would love to see back on track.
Louis Younis picked up a runner up award in the Pro Modified prize stakes at MotorEx, their recently finished PHAATT LJ Torana debuted with a spectacular but unplanned wheelstand the other week at Sydney Dragway.
A bunch of NSW Supercharged Outlaws machines also took part in the fire ups, drawing plenty attention to the sport.
Here Bianca Humphrey’s sits in the driver seat of her father’s dragster during fire up – won’t be long Garry until she will want to drive it for real!
On display for the first time was Dave Hellyer’s KIL308 Torana that has undergone a recent gutting and complete rebuild.
Drag racing machines littered the displays through out the venue.
The theme of this year’s MotorEx was Hollywood rides, with George Barris – Hollywood car builder – the guest of honour for the event. Barris is responsible for many of the iconic cars featured throughout TV and movies over the years – Grandpa’s Drag-U-La from The Munsters still looks goods.
Though not drag racing related, the most controversial build of this year’s MotorEx was this Torana-Rod – we will let you form your own opinion.
We will wrap up this year’s report from MotorEx with a few more snaps of just some of the polished bling that was on show.
