Emilio and Adamo Spinozzi come into Gulf Western Oil Nitro Thunder at Sydney Dragway with a totally new combination in their Terra Civil Pro Slammer ready to rumble.
The Spinozzis will be taking on another eight Pro Slammer teams at the event, which marks the second last round of the 2018/19 400 Thunder season.
Emilio said the team had made the switch to Darren Mayer-supplied engines, which have already showed much promise.
“We’ve been out testing a lot and we have improved our personal best time to 5.86 seconds,” Spinozzi said.
“Darren’s engine package is really strong and his experience in the fuel delivery is industry leading. He has given us the support to get the new engines up and running and working as they should.”
Spinozzi’s crew chief Michael Marriott appreciated the opportunity to work with Darren, who has much experience with supercharged cars around the world.
“We’d like to acknowledge the support and time Darren has given and we will now take the ball and run with it,” he said.
Recent testing allowed the team to record much better ‘launch’ times to 60 feet, the all-important measure of how quickly a drag racing vehicle accelerates in the first part of the track.
“We have been struggling to get beneath one second but off the trailer in testing we were able to go 0.988 which was great for us,” Spinozzi said.
“We had a problem with a loose fuel fitting – our fault – on our last testing run on Tuesday, which caused some damage to a motor. But our incremental times on that pass were on track for a 5.7 second run. That kind of performance would put us right into contention.”
Spinozzi currently sits sixth in the overall championship standings for Pro Slammer. With just six points covering third to sixth positions a strong performance at Gulf Western Oil Nitro Thunder could see Spinozzi move into a podium position with one round remaining in the series.
The team will not be lacking support at the event, with guests from Hitachi again joining the Spinozzi family at the track as well as new sponsor Complete Hire.
“We need to make special mention to our crew, they have been working hard and we are starting to make ground,” Spinozzi said.
“Michael Marriott has been working tirelessly and we know that seeing the results in testing is just the motivation we need to race hard at Nitro Thunder.”
Spinozzi thanked team sponsors Terra Civil, Hitachi Construction Machinery, Complete Hire, Nicsons Concrete, DMPE ,Torco Oils, LJ Hooker Commercial Macarthur, Soligo Concrete, Sloanebuilt Trailers, Pasta Italia, Optimum Fire, Planned Signs, Kemps Creek Mitre 10, Western Filters, Speedflow, Al’s Race Glides, Smithfield Diff and Gearbox, Race Teknix and Corfield Media Solutions for their continued support.
