The first new Australian Top Fuel team in some time is aiming for a debut next season on the west coast.
Western Australia’s Kyle Putland, a Comp driver and owner of the Quarter Mile Drag Racing Experience three-seater dragsters, has an ex-Darren Di Filippo dragster being prepared right now.
Putland is no stranger to nitro, having briefly campaigned an Outlaw Nitro Funny Car, but he is making the switch to Top Fuel to live out a dream.
“We aren’t looking at to be at the pointy end, we just want to be consistent and run to a budget,” he said. “This will be a car where we just run locally, perhaps at one or two events a season.”
Putland will be working together with Rory Taylor from Speed Torque to develop the car, which he wants to market to sponsors alongside his Quarter Mile Drag Racing Experience business.
“It’s going to have the big pump and all and if we could even run something like a 4.0 eventually we would be super happy,” he said. “Combined with the Quarter Mile Drag Racing Experience we think we will have a package that will be very attractive to corporate partners, who can watch us race and then experience a similar thrill themselves in our three-seater dragsters.”
