Newby in new colours takes runner up at season opener

Newby Racing avoided the raft of upsets at the Fuch’s Australian Nationals to take a solid runner up finish at the first round of the 2010/2011 Top Alcohol Australian Championship.

A first elimination round 5.57 second personal best elapsed time from Newby defeated Rick Gauci, and had the JBS Tools dragster looking strong for the rest of eliminations.

The semi final matched Newby against Steven Ham. Newby scored the win with a 5.91 elapsed time over a tyre smoking Ham. During the run the engine leaned out torching the heads leaving a mad thrash for the crew to effect an engine change before the final.

After a massive effort the team had the car turned around in time for the final against Aaron Hambridge.

The final was close fought race with Newby’s 5.68/226 MPH pass, just falling short of Hambridge’s 5.60/251mph winning run.

“Wayne cut a good light,” said Anthony Lavorato, crew chief for Newby racing.

“Unfortunately the car banged the blower off,” he said.

The Newby team was satisfied with their effort at the event.

“It has been a terrific weekend and the car seems to be running consistently, and looks great,” said Lavorato.

“A big thank you to the staff at Sydney Dragway, they have done a great job this weekend and deserve to be acknowledged.”

The next round of the ANDRA Pro Series is at the Sydney Dragway on 30th and 31st October.

Wayne Newby would like to thank the entire team and their valued sponsors JBS Tools, Fabre Australia, Smithfield Diff and Gear, Coldy’s Tow & Bullbars, Redline Oils, VP Racing Fuels, Mick’s Metal Craft and Newby Engineering for their continued support.
