Next step for Danny Rickard

South Australia’s Danny Rickard has taken his v-twin obsession to the next level, stepping into the nitro ranks.

Rickard has toured around much of the country on a Harley Davidson V-Rod, playing in Competition Bike and Modified Bike for recent seasons, and he has had increasing success. The highlight was arguably his 2017/18 national championship in Modified Bike.

But the urge to step up to the next level was always there. Rickard set after that goal with the purchase of a small cube nitro Harley from the USA last year. The motorcycle was built by Johnny Vickers of Hawaya Racing, a company that has constructed many of the Pro Fuel bikes in competition around the world. Pro Fuel is a popular class in the USA with the bikes required to use a carbureted, 45-degree v-twin motor with nitro fuel. They are high gear only, single speed bikes with a maximum displacement of 122 cubic inches.

Several of these bikes are now in Australia competing in Top Bike.

“My bike is pretty much the same as Wayne McGuinness’ bike, just with a different chassis design as it is a couple of years newer,” he said.
