The Nieuwhof Family Racing team and their 60foot Kawasaki will be looking for two wins in a row come this weekend’s Pro Showdown at Perth Motorplex after victory last time out at the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship round.

Rider Luke Nieuwhof defeated Justin Townson in the final, with Townson breaking a chain on the launch. The 60foot Kawasaki meanwhile had its own issues, running way off the dial in with an unhappy engine.

“Drag racing is one of those sports where you can often endure a lot of bad luck so when good luck comes on to your side you have to accept it,” Nieuwhof said.

“The final aside, the bike was performing very well for most of the night and we turned on some good reaction times and closely dialled runs.”

The team are now hoping that the gremlin has been exterminated, with bike owner Paul Nieuwhof going over the 1428cc motor in the search for the cause of the finals drama.

“We can’t find anything obvious so we have tidied up and refreshed a few things which may have been the cause,” Luke said.

“We are crossing our fingers a bit that the 60foot Kawasaki performs, but we are fairly confident it will be back to its best.”

Coverage for the team continued between events, featuring on SBS Speedweek’s coverage of the Aeroflow round.

The Pro Showdown runs from January 31 to February 1. The 60foot Kawasaki will make three qualifying passes on Saturday before eliminations begin in the late afternoon.
