The Perth Motorplex is set to fire up with unmissable nitro action this Saturday and Sunday with the 2022 MacTrack Westernationals.
The March 5-6 event will feature the ever-popular BME/SpeedTorque Nitro Max Series, with the fire breathing nitro-fuelled funny cars, altereds and dragsters sure to be a fan favourite.
With two rounds of the Nitro Max championship already complete, Andrew Katavatis and his ‘Beach Bomb’ 69 Chevrolet Camaro funny car are currently leading the title standings by just five points from Matt Abel and his ‘Nitro Thunder’ Pontiac Trans Am funny car.
Nipping at their heels and third in the rankings currently is Anthony Begley in the ‘Dark Knight’ Pontiac.
Joining the championship contenders to entertain the crowds and fight for event glory this weekend are Kyle Putland, a long-time drag racer who is new to the series in the ‘Under Pressure’ Hadman dragster, and Michael Brooks who will take to the track in his ‘Nitro Mayhem’ front engine dragster.
“Every time the BME/SpeedTorque Nitro Slam competitors come to the Perth Motorplex, the atmosphere here is just electric and I guarantee that fans will not be disappointed when it comes to the delivery of thrilling nitro action this weekend,” Perth Motorplex Commercial and Operations Manager, Paul Trengove, said.
The Nitro Max racers will race as part of a 180+ strong field this weekend, competing alongside the Australian Drag Racing Championship’s Top Doorslammer and Top Fuel Motorcycle competitors as well as the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series. As well as being a part of the national ADRC rankings, the field of 10 Doorslammers will also be competing for points in the track’s Direct Mining International Summer Slam Series.
“The MacTrack Westernationals is going to be a real barnstormer, there is no question about that,” Trengove said.
“From the five epic Nitro Slam racers to ten Top Doorslammers, five Top Fuel Motorcycles, and a fantastic line-up of Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series racers – the entry list is looking just fantastic.
“We are also very pleased to be welcoming a number of races to the event all the way from South Australia. Given that the border opening announcement came less than 24 hours prior to the close of entries for this event, this show of interstate support is really great and we can’t wait to host these racers here at the Perth Motorplex this weekend.
“Overall, we have more than 180 racers set to compete this weekend and each and every one of them will be doing all they can to put on an epic show for the fans while they do their best to bring home a prestigious Gold ANDRA Christmas Tree trophy.
“Quite simply, this event is not to be missed!”
The 2022 MacTrack Westernationals will be held at the Perth Motorplex this Saturday and Sunday (March 5 and 6). Racing will be on-track each day from 11.00am to 10.00pm, with the main show taking place from 5.30pm to 10.00pm Saturday and Sunday (all times approximate).
