The ANDRA Drag Racing Masters, which will mark ANDRA’s official return to Sydney after a number of years on January 24th, is quickly gaining momentum.
Official nominations are steady, and interest at the South Coast Nationals at Portland’s South Coast Raceway last weekend has indicated that a good number of southern competitors will be joining the NSW party.
“Some competitors sought clarity on the South Coast Nationals weekend about the number of qualifying sessions which will be available considering some Group 1 categories will also be competing at this one-day event,” said ANDRA CEO Tim McAvaney.
“I then took the opportunity at the competitor’s briefing on Sunday morning to confirm three qualifiers will be scheduled before the first round of eliminations at 4pm.
“Sydney Dragway are experts in running one-day events with over 200 competitors. We have every confidence that everything will fit into the schedule, beginning at 9am, with the main program from 4pm and continuing into the evening.”
Bump-in for the event will be from noon on Friday 23rd January, with teams invited to sign in between 5pm and 8pm. Sunday 25th January is the scheduled rain-date.
Top Sportsman competitor Darren Whitford is one of a list of racers who have put in early bird entries for the highly anticipated event.
“We’re really excited to be heading to Sydney for the first time and to be part of the ANDRA Drag Racing Masters on the Australia Day long weekend,” said the racer from Happy Valley in South Australia.
“It is a great opportunity to showcase our Pontiac GTO and see how we stack up against some of the best in the country.
“The team has been working hard in the lead up and were confident in both the car and our preparation.
“We are looking forward to putting on a strong performance, enjoying the atmosphere, and hopefully coming away with the result.
“Sydney has been on our radar for a long time, and to finally get a chance especially at such a great event, means a lot to all of the team.
“We can’t wait to meet the fans, experience the track, and represent our sponsors and supporters.”
