Nostalgia drag racing is set to visit Hidden Valley this weekend as the Top End Nostalgia’s gets under way at 3pm on Saturday.
“There are plenty of classic vehicles around the Top End and we’ve managed to pull some of these down to the Valley to have a run on the quarter mile” said HVDRA President Jay Jukes.
One key contender is the 9 second Holden FJ ute of Troy David. After walking away from a serious speedway fire this year, David is set to see if he can break into the 8 second zone in his street registered FJ.
David’s FJ was believed to be the fastest registered street car in Darwin, simply changing his tyres and adding a shot of Nitrous Oxide was enough to propel him to a personal best of 9.0 seconds at over 150mph. With a new track to compete on, all eyes will be on the FJ to see if he can boast an 8 second street registered vehicle!
Competing in the same bracket is the poster child for the event, Brad Hagen. Only new to Hidden Valley in 2011, Hagen boasts one of the most impressive looking nostalgia vehicles in the Top End. The 500ci V8 powering 1934 coupe will be going head to head with David in the Super Sedan bracket.
Also pre-nominated for the event are a bevy of Top Doorslammer spec vehicles who are scheduled to do some testing throughout the night including the Territory’s own Matt Abel and Scott MacLean, as well as NSW based Frank Mamone in his Chevy Nova.
Off track, the Darwin Roller Girls are set to perform Roller Derby Demos and will be milling with the crowd for photo opportunities throughout the night while there will be giveaways and prizes for the kids.
Encompassing Round 3 of the Track Champion Series, the Top End Nostalgia’s gets under way from 3pm on Saturday with feature racing scheduled from 7pm.
