Rapisarda Racing has joined the travelling NHRA road show set to cross the Arizona desert for round two of the 2012 Full Throttle Championship at Firebird Speedway, Phoenix this weekend.
On Monday the Rapisarda team spent the day at the Pomona track prepping the trailer, building motors and ordering parts for this weekends meeting. The Rapisarda team is travelling with two trailers. The primary rig housing the car driven by Cory McClenathan and a second “turn key” fueller that was last raced in November by Western Australian Damien Harris.
“This is the glamorous side of drag racing,’’ said team owner Santo Rapisarda tongue firmly planted in his cheek. “We decided to spend a couple of extra days in Los Angeles getting organized and planning for the Phoenix round. What happens in the lead -up can often mean the difference between a good weekend and a great weekend. The American Pro teams have been on the road doing this gypsy travelling for a long time but for any overseas team it is a challenge. We are running a team of 7 “Aussies” plus 5 local crew members
The SRR trailers are expected to arrive in Phoenix on Thursday and spend the day setting up the race car, hospitality area as well as undergoing tech inspection from NHRA officials
First round of qualifying is scheduled for 2 pm local time with a second session at 4.30 pm.
“If there are any “Aussies” in Phoenix for the race meeting they are more than welcome too call around to our pit,” said Rapisarda . “ Being so far from home we really appreciate support and encouragement for the weekend.
