With a huge field of 10 Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars set to take to Mildura’s Sunset Strip Saturday April 19, the new racing surface is being prepared to the highest possible standard, which means the teams will be able to use the full 4000hp being produced by their supercharged nitro engines.
Paul Keen and the entire Sunset Strip track crew are continuing to put the final touches to the new surface.
Series Manager Steve Bettes explained, “The Sunraysia Drag Racing Club are putting in a huge effort to make sure we have a great track and event.
“In the last several weeks the club have been working flat out on the new surface and they have spent six hours a day tyre-dragging the track over the last few weeks and they have washed the track 8 times!”
The club has also invested in applying the correct products to ensure the best possible startline for the nitro cars.
Bettes continued “The track crew has laid down three drums of startline resin and have sprayed four drums of traction compound into the surface to make it spot on. It has been a monumental effort and we thank them very much for all of their support for this event.”
Qualifying starts at 11am for a huge field of 80 vehicles across all categories
Plus, the amazing Nitro Sheriff Wheelstanding funny car will be entertaining the crowd as well as Yamaha’s crazy stuntman, Dave McKenna, hitting the track from 6.00pm to 10pm followed by a massive fireworks display.
The Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars are a part of Mildura’s Easter Powersports weekend, which comprises four sporting clubs who run major sporting competitions over the Easter weekend including Mildura Ski Club, Sunraysia Drag Racing Association, Timmis Speedway and Mildura Motorcycle Club.
The weekend also features a Show and Shine, which is held on Good Friday and provides a showcase of all the various vehicles competing in a vibrant and exciting atmosphere prior to their competition.
