PASSION AND POWER: BRENNAN IS READY TO TAKE ON THE WESTERNATS

Maurice Brennan’s Top Doorslammer cuts a different figure to most of his ADRC Top Doorslammer competitors, but it is one that is hugely popular with a large segment of Australian drag racing and motorsport fans who hold the Holden Commodore close to their hearts.

Brennan and his Just Flooring WA VT Commodore Doorslammer will be making their national Australian Drag Racing Championship debut as part of a huge 12-car Top Doorslammer field at this weekend’s MAC Track Westernationals (March 4/5).

While the West Aussie is making his national debut, keen followers of the sport will know Brennan for the former “World’s quickest Commodore” that turned plenty of heads around a decade ago, even sometimes dabbling in the local Doorslammer scene.

Newly licensed for his return to the category he loves, Brennan is looking forward to upping the stakes this weekend.

“We licensed about three meetings ago now, and we are ready to start stepping up the power!” he explained.

“The car is absolutely phenomenal, it is solid as, it is an absolute weapon, and a really nice car.

“We haven’t put a lot of power into it as yet, but we are going to start stepping up the power at the Westernationals and beyond. And we will be doing it with a new look too, as the car is newly sign written ready for this weekend.

“There is so much competition in this class and I think it is one of the hardest outside of Top Fuel; these guys and girls are really smart people, and they know their stuff, and we will be doing all we can – we have the gear to go well, and we will just have to see how far we push it on the day as we look to step it up.”

Speaking on the stand-out Commodore appearance, Brennan explains the decision to go with the Holden was inspired by his son Kade, who one day hopes to make his own Top Doorslammer debut.

“I wasn’t initially interested in doing another Commodore, but my son like so many grew up with the Commodore and that is what he wanted to do, and we went with it. It cost twice as much, and it sees us make compromises in the aero compared to some of the other cars, but it was well worth it, and it is an exceptional car,” Brennan said.

“There is definitely a lot of passion there, not only for Kade and in our family, but in the drag racing community. It sure gets a lot of comments, and the Holden fans just love it, as it isn’t really the norm in Top Doorslammer!”

Brennan is excited to make his national debut with the ADRC, and is already planning on taking his ADRC exploits on the road.

“It is quite exciting to be making our debut and we fully intend on doing the rounds with a truck and trailer on the road. We are just making sure we are as competitive as possible first, but we could be in action at ADRC events outside of WA as early as the June event in Darwin – watch this space,” he winked.

“In the meantime, I need to thank all of my crew, they have been phenomenal, and also a special thanks must go to Wayne and Lisa Keys who finished the build on the car for me when I physically didn’t have the time due to the growth of the Just Flooring WA business – without them, the car wouldn’t even be here. I also want to acknowledge Bob Lush from Applied Automotive, and Just Flooring WA.”

The MAC Track Westernationals will be held on Saturday March 4 and Sunday March 5. Gates open 11.00am on both Saturday March 4 and Sunday March 5, with the ‘main show’ on-track from 5.30pm to 10.00pm (all times approximate). For full event information, visit https://motorplex.com.au/52nd-westernationals/
