Following the 2023/24 season, Perth Motorplex began works to repair the affected area, with the initial works recently completed on the track.
Unfortunately, the repair has not solved the issue to the desired standard, requiring significant additional works to provide a racing surface that meets the demands of championship drag racing at Perth Motorplex.
From Thursday September 26th, 2024 – Perth Motorplex will begin works to replace the affected section of the track surface.
The works will take some time to complete, resulting in some of Perth Motorplex Drag Racing activities being affected up until the end of October 2024.
“We were hopeful that these initial repairs were going to be enough to solve the issues, however they did not meet the high standards of surface finish and flatness which are required, we owe it to our Drag Racing teams to provide the best possible track conditions within our power,” said Ray Treasure, Perth Motorplex Drag Racing Manager.
The downtime of the drag strip will prohibit the operation of Drag Racing activities up until the end of October, however the Operation of the Burnouts and Speedway events at Perth Motorplex will remain unaffected.
“It’s certainly not ideal to be conducting major venue works right as the new season is about to start, but we would much rather get the track sorted before the Championship Drag Racing gets underway this season,” added Gavin Migro, Perth Motorplex General Manager.
Although drag racing cannot be run during this works period – Perth Motorplex will still operate events! With a shift in focus to provide unique opportunities for competitors and entertainment for fans alike:
Further updates on the Drag Strip remediation works, including announcements of Drag Racing Test ‘N’ Tune dates for the competitors will be released in the next few weeks
