Major site works in the refurbishment of the Perth Motorplex drag strip have begun, with the old concrete surface being uprooted in preparation for an all-new full concrete quarter-mile.

Venues West is delivering the major upgrade to the drag strip at Perth Motorplex to support the long‑term future of drag racing in Western Australia. The project involves replacement of the existing drag strip, which has reached the end of its serviceable life.

“We are incredibly proud to be a part of this project, the single-largest investment into Western Australian Drag Racing since the inception of the Perth Motorplex 25 years ago,” said Gavin Migro, General Manager – Perth Motorplex.

Once complete, the new track will provide a safer, more reliable and more consistent racing surface for competitors, officials and event partners.

The Perth Motorplex team took part in a ground-breaking ceremony on Friday 8 May to mark the beginning of the project with works planned to be completed prior to the 2026–27 drag racing season.

Demolition of the existing drag strip has already made significant progress, with more than 2,250 tonnes of concrete removed from the racing surface so far. An asphalt grinding machine has also stripped more than 9,000 square metres of asphalt as the venue moves closer towards a brand-new era for drag racing in Western Australia.
