Evolve Facility Management (operators of Perth Motorplex), in partnership with VenuesWest, is excited to announce that the State Government has approved funding to commence a full replacement of the drag strip at Perth Motorplex.

Since opening in late 2000, the existing drag strip has been instrumental in shaping the history of Australian drag racing—hosting multiple blue-ribbon championship events and countless record-breaking performances over the past 25 years. However, the current surface is reaching the end of its serviceable life and no longer meets the high performance standards that we set at the venue.
Stage 1 of the project is already underway, with conceptual design and tender documentation awarded to Peritas Group. The project is being led by the same civil engineering management team behind the original Perth Motorplex build in 2000, and has also played key roles in drag strip projects in Darwin, Sydney and most recently at Tailem Bend in South Australia – now considered a benchmark facility in Australian Drag Racing.
The new drag strip at Perth Motorplex will be a complete rebuild, featuring a continuous concrete surface for the full racing distance and beyond the finish line—considered as the “gold standard” for drag racing facilities worldwide.
“This is such great news for the Perth Motorplex, with confirmation that we will have a brand new, world class surface once again. I can’t thank VenuesWest and the State Government enough for their support of drag racing and motorsport in Perth. This is such a great win for our drag racing community. Once complete, we expect the new surface to usher in a new era of drag racing—bringing faster and more thrilling competition for racers and fans alike, reinforcing Perth Motorplex’s status as Australia’s premier drag racing and speedway venue.” said Gavin Migro, General Manager – Perth Motorplex.
The replacement project is expected to be completed at some stage in 2026. Planning is currently underway with a works schedule yet to be finalised, including what impacts the project will have on the new season calendar. Once these impacts are fully understood, Perth Motorplex will issue further updates to all stakeholders.
Perth Motorplex staff will soon be in contact with all 2025–26 drag racing season members.
