Former National Doorslammer Champion, Gary Phillips unveiled his refurbished Lucas Oils Studebaker last weekend, stirring a great response from fans and fellow racers alike.
“The response to the car has been great. There’s a few subtle changes to the paint scheme and some more major changes to the rear end, but what’s best is that in testing and qualifying it was an absolute pleasure to drive, given the oppressive conditions” said Phillips.
The cancellation of the Summernationals due to rain was more than a disappointment for the Lucas Oils team after a heavy preparation schedule for both the Top Alcohol funny car and the revised Studebaker Doorslammer was left unrewarded.
However, the next opportunity to put the Studebaker through its paces is less than ten days away with the Lucas Oils team crossing the continent to Perth’s Motorplex for the Westernationals.
“The Westernats is a great event and is always a good proving ground for our race cars. The West Aussies are certainly the ones to beat and the pressure will be on to serve it up to them on their home soil.”
“Having said that, the staff, track crew and facilities have made Perth our favourite track and we can’t wait to get back to the west!”
The first chance for West Australian fans to see the Lucas Oils Doorslammer in action will be Saturday and Sunday, the 27th and 28th of February with Top Doorslammer taking to the quarter mile at 6, 8 and 10pm both nights.
