The last time Top Fuel visited Willowbank Raceway, PremiAir Racing came away with a Winternationals event win and its first Top Fuel Championship, while also twice rewriting the national record books.
Now the team is preparing to head back to the Queensland venue for its New Year Nitro event across January 6 and 7 – the latest round of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship.
“Willowbank Raceway truly does hold a lot of great memories for PremiAir Racing,” team boss and Top Fuel driver, Peter Xiberras, said.
“Not only was it where we claimed our first Top Fuel title, the 2021 Winternationals win, and national and track records, it was also the place where I took my first ever Top Fuel win in January of 2018, and actually was also where I made my Top Fuel debut back in Easter of 2014.
“Top Fuel hasn’t returned to Willowbank since the 2021 Winternationals, so we are definitely keen to be heading back and hopefully, we can pick up where we left off at this great Queensland track.”
New Year Nitro marks round three of the seven-round 2022/2023 Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship season, with Xiberras and PremiAir Racing being the defending and two-time champions.
“It has been a tough season for us so far, but we never give up and we are feeling confident that we can put on a fantastic show for the Queensland fans at Willowbank,” Xiberras said.
“We haven’t had an A-Final win yet this season, so it would be amazing to break through for that at Willowbank Raceway, which is our home track with the team headquartered in Queensland.
“Hopefully we can open up our New Year with some great results and valuable points for our title defence.”
PremiAir Racing is set to be very busy in January, with Willowbank Raceway’s New Year Nitro event across January 6/7 set to be quickly followed up by Sydney Dragway’s Top Fuel Slam on January 27 and 28, and the team’s Supercars also set to be on track on January 30 for pre-season testing.
