Pro Stock and Outlaws to race at Calder this weekend

Sleek Pro Stock and thundering Supercharged Outlaw cars will be in action this Saturday and Sunday (March 12-13) at the Calder Park Labour Day weekend drag racing event.

Known as factory Hot Rods, the US-built spec-bodied Holden Monaro and Pontiac Grand Am will take on a pair of Dodge Stratus and a Dodge Avenger in the General Motors verses Mopar Pro Stock shootout.

Flying the General Motors flag will be Queensland young gun, Shane Tucker (Holden Monaro) and Victorian Ian Brown (Pontiac Grand Am), while in the Mopar camp are Victorians Lee Bektash (Dodge Stratus) and Richard Caval (Dodge Avenger) and Andrew Stavroulakis (Dodge Stratus) from Sydney. 

Melbourne-based Lee Bektash is Australia’s quickest-ever Pro Stock racer, recording a 7.023 seconds time for the quarter-mile and the Calder Park Pro Stock track record holder.

While Tucker, who spent some time in the US test driving for a leading NHRA Pro Stock team, has recorded a best time of 7.074 seconds.

Bektash’s best speed is 193.93mph (312.10km/h) – Australia’s fifth fastest Pro Stock racer – while Tucker’s is 193.07mph (310.71km/h).           

The Supercharged Outlaw bracket, which has attracted 20 entries from across Victoria and New South Wales, will see mechanically supercharged V8 Dragsters, Funny Cars, Altereds and sedan vehicles using methanol fuel race against each other.

Also in action on the weekend will be Top Eliminator, Super Eliminator, Super Street, Nostalgia and Pro Street cars and Modified Bike.

The Monster Energy Winner’s Circle party, where race fans can interact with drivers and teams members, will also be in full swing at the event. At the conclusion of the event, the trophy presentation will be held on the stage of Monster Energy Winner’s Circle.    

Qualifying will start on Saturday (March 12) at 6pm until 9.30pm and continue on Sunday (March 13) morning followed by racing.

Spectator entry for Saturday is; Adults, $25; Concession – pensioners/disabled/carers and children 14-17 years, $15; family (2 adults and 2 concession), $60; children 13 years and under free.

Sunday; Adults, $40; Concession – pensioners/disabled/carers and children 14-17 years, $20; family (2 adults and 2 concession), $100; children 13 years and under free.
Weekend pass (Saturday and Sunday); Adults, $50; Concession, $30; family (2 adults and 2 concession), $130.
