Pro Stock Motorcycle Australia (PSMA) has moved into a new phase within the professional drag racing category. Stepping up their presence and coverage on social media to ensure that PSMA is the place for fans to get the latest in anything related to Pro Stock Motorcycle from around Australia.
For decades, these two-wheeled machines have been pushing the limits to race down the quarter mile in under 7 seconds at close to 200 miles per hour. Resembling popular motorcycle manufactures – hence the name “Pro Stock” – these purpose built drag racing motorcycles are fitted with some of the most hi-tech equipment available to ensure the best performance possible on each run down the track. PSMA will be bringing you all the action from the remaining 2022/23 Pro Stock Motorcycle season to highlight just how exhilarating this racing category is.
Round one of the 400 Thunder Aeroflow Drag Racing Season started at the 2022 Winternationals, at Willowbank Raceway. Usually the final round of the season – where the champion is crowned – this was made to be the opening round of the season due to COVID-19. This also means that Pro Stock Motorcycle will be racing in another extended Super Season, racing over five rounds.
Luke Crowley took the honours at the prestigious Winternationals, running consistent low 7-second runs all weekend. He got ever so close to another 6-second pass, running 7.001 seconds during qualifying to take the top spot into eliminations. Scott White was the runner-up and will be going into the second round chasing down Crowley, hoping not to give him too big of a lead this early in the championship. White had only ever gone past the first round of racing at the Winternationals previously, so it was a personal best achievement making the final round. Tony Frost made it into the semi-finals, and although he couldn’t make it into the final, he’ll be looking to go that step further in Sydney for a chance at the Gold Christmas Tree.
Round two of the Championship takes us to Sydney Dragway for East Coast Thunder on November 4th and 5th. Sydney Dragway is one of the best facilities in the world for drag racing, and PSMA cannot wait to head there and put on a show for the fans.
Scott White is looking forward to heading back to Sydney saying, “I won my first Gold Christmas Tree there at the inaugural 400 Thunder event, so it is a special place for me.” Scott also mentioned that although Crowley is his rival, he has been very helpful giving some ideas in setting up the bike.
“We’re certainly heading in the right direction and I’m thinking 7.1’s or even 7.0’s are not out of the question depending on the weather conditions,” he said. “I’m expecting them all [the competitors] to be sharp and on the money. There’s a lot of hungry and talented racers in this bracket, and now with the effort that Luke’s putting in to help everyone, I think there will be low numbers all around and probably sixes from him. I think it’s really exciting!”
Championship leader, Luke Crowley, is also excited to be back at Sydney Dragway.
“This will be the first time we have run on the new surface and also the first time we have raced there since the 6.90 pass in 2018,” said Crowley, who is expecting the same sort of performances.
“Although the weather is likely to be hot and humid with high water grains. Depending on the day it just may not be possible to eclipse some more 6.90’s,” he said.
It has been busy time for Crowley since the opening round of the season.
“Since the Winters, the bike has had some small make-overs and it has been completely rewired. On the engine side of things, I have had some new transmission parts arrive from Liberty Gears and I am so damn keen to drop that clutch lever to test our theory on what these motors want! Time will tell and I can’t wait,” he said.
Crowley has also been assisting his fellow competitors to ensure teams can continue to improve and have consistent high levels of performance.
“I’m very excited to see what I can do with both Scott [White] and Daniel’s [Rabnott] bikes. Both are running our clutch management systems and with Rabnott’s recent testing at Palmyra, it demonstrated great promise.” he said. “Scott was also using this system at the first round at Willowbank and that helped him to his first final round appearance at the Winternationals.”
With these new adjustments and freshened up motors, the teams are hoping to see at least some 7.0 second passes.
Sydney Dragway is also where Glenn Wooster ran a personal best of 6.99 seconds. Wooster is the reigning champion and will be looking for a strong outing to defend his glory from last season.
Locky Ireland rounds out the field for Pro Stock Motorcycle, and it will make for an exciting event with everyone either getting close to or running some of the quickest and fastest runs seen in Australia in recent events.
