A newly announced Pro Street racing concept set to make its debut at this weekend’s Queensland Drag Racing Championship round at Willowbank Raceway (Saturday July 12) is fast gaining traction, with more than 20 racers expected to take part.
The fourth round of the QDRC comes hot on the heels of the weekend’s fifth round of the Street Series, held at Queensland’s premier drag racing facility on Saturday 5 July.
The QLD Pro Street and Grudge Racing Test Day will see some of Queensland’s best Pro Street racers assemble at Willowbank Raceway as part of the 12 July QDRC event for a day of on-track action in a relaxed atmosphere, said Test Day organiser Stu Henry.
“The thing I hate about racing is that at the end of the day there is one guy or girl who walks away with a trophy and the rest are left with nothing, the QLD Pro Street and Grudge Racing Test Day is about offering something different,” said Henry, who thanks DSP Guards and Patrols, Diesel Australia, 6Boost, PTC and Neil Racing Transmissions for their support of the concept.
“Pro Street racers like to ‘test’ a fair bit, and after a while a few of us decided to try and organise a day where we could all get together and hit the track together on the same day to make it not just a chance to do some runs and chase their own personal track goals, but also to get together as a group.
“Willowbank Raceway kindly got on board with the concept and once I set up a Facebook page announcing the idea, the enthusiasm from the guys really showed with more than 20 currently planning to be a part of either our first event or future events.”
“We have some great names already signed up to take part in what we hope will be new regular event for the Pro Street racers,” said Henry, who will take part in the event himself in his well-known wheel-standing Capri.
“Johnny Wilson, Michael Arnold, Wayne Blinco, Joey Bridge, Doug Day, Scott Harker, Wayne Newman, Luke Page, Janelle Scott, Terry Seng, Shawn Taskis and Andrew Valentine are all early entrants, and we look forward to seeing more sign-up before the entry deadline on Wednesday.
“We are expecting a good mix of cars and racers, so all together it should present a pretty good day out for anyone in the Pro Street scene or who likes these kinds of cars – there will certainly be plenty to see between us and everything else on offer at the QDRC!”
Joining the QLD Pro Street and Grudge Racing Test Day on-track as part of the QDRC schedule will be racers across the Knijff Earthmoving Modified, Powercruise Super Sedan, Prime Signs/Speed Elec Super Street, Modified Bike, Junior Dragster and Super Gas brackets, who will continue their season-long battle for a coveted QDRC trophy.
This weekend’s festivities follow hot on the heels of the fifth round for the Willowbank Raceway Street Series, held at the Raceway on Saturday 5 July. During that event racers competed for Street Sedan, Street Bike and Powder Puff points in the Street Series and the winners were:
Greg Gerhardy took victory in Hot Street.
Jeff Munster was the Street Eliminator victor.
Quick Eliminator was won by Raymond Brockhurst.
Stuart MacMillan took the Street Bike win.
Belinda Hutchinson took out the Powder Puff bracket win.
