More than 120 pro street racers will take over Queensland’s premier drag racing facility this Easter Saturday for the Australian Pro Street Association (APSA) Pro Street Shootout.
Leading the way at 7 April 2012 Willowbank Raceway event will be the popular 10.5 Outlaw bracket and the new X275 category, joined by Pro Street Blown, Pro Street Unblown, Pro Street Bike, Modified Street Blown, True Street Unblown and DYO.
The ASPA’s Johnny Wilson has high hopes both for the event and his team Staunch Racing this weekend.
“I’m not driving at the moment due to injury, but my team with Simon Kryger is going all out this weekend with a world record attempt,” said Wilson.
“We are aiming for the nitrous outlaw 10.5 world record – which is 6.52 seconds at 210 miles per hour. It is a massive goal and one we will be so stoked to achieve, and we reckon we can do it!
“The weekend is going to be fantastic – not only do we have the popular 10.5 racers, but we also have the up and coming X275 bracket which has 19 entries in its very first outing and will see everyone restricted to 275 radials with turbos versus blown versus nitrous versus naturally aspirated, pitted against each other will be everything from turbo 4/6 cylinder to nitrous small block/big block this class is the next big thing in the APSA ranks.
“Then you throw in a big Pro Street field, the True Street racers including defending champ Janelle Scott, Dial Your Own and also Pro Street Bike which is really gaining momentum with bikes from all over the country lining up.
“If you are looking for something to do this Easter with the family, this event will not disappoint!”
Also on track during the event will be the Great Chrome Bumper Muscle Car Show – featuring anything and everything that can be classified as a muscle car with chrome bumpers.
Willowbank Raceway Managing Director Steve Bettes said the event was the next evolution in the growing Pro Street movement.
“We are going to see a lot of heavy hitters in the Pro Street ranks at Willowbank Raceway this weekend and that is exciting,” said Bettes.
“Racers like Jason Donnelly, John Cannuli, Simon Kyrger and Tony Wedlock will be leading the pack, and we will also welcome back the charismatic Craig Thompson.
“The action will kick off with a Test and Tune on Good Friday from 3.00pm, before qualifying gets underway on Saturday at 10.00am with racing starting from 3.00pm.”
